A motorcyclist, who was sentenced to five and a half years in jail and six strokes of the baton last year for his role in the assault on a beauty queen’s lover, will spend another three and a half years behind bars after repeating himself while in bail.
Ong Hock Chye, now 50, will serve his last sentence after completing the previous one. He pleaded guilty earlier this year to crimes including a riot charge. A district court heard yesterday that he can no longer be spanked due to his age.
Ong was the middleman in the attack on banquet waiter Joshua Koh Kian Yong, then 35, in 2016.
Koh was dating Audrey Chen Ying Fang, 27, who won the Miss Mermaid beauty pageant that year and was also the mistress of married businessman Lim Hong Liang at the time.
Lim wanted his nephew Ron Lim De Mai, then 26, to “teach Joshua a lesson.” Ron Lim tied up Ong to recruit others to carry out the task.
On April 30, 2016, Koh was having dinner with Ms. Chen at Huay Kwang Thai Kitchen near Little India when a group of men ambushed him. They punched him in the head and cut his arm and face with a razor.
Ron Lim was sentenced to three years in jail with four strokes of the cane in 2018.
In May last year, Lim, then 55, was sentenced to six years in prison, while Ong received five and a half years in prison and six strokes of the cane.
FIRED
Ong was later released on bail because he intended to file an appeal, which has since been dismissed.
While on bail, Ong rioted with five other men at a restaurant on Keong Saik Road on January 14 this year.
The court heard that Ong’s friend Lock Soh Hock, 71, had a dispute with Koh Teck Soon, 41, that day. Lock called Ong and told him that he had been beaten.
Ong tied up four men, and the six later confronted Mr. Koh Teck Soon at the restaurant and assaulted him.
The court documents did not establish the outcome of the cases involving Ong’s accomplices.
Those convicted of riots can be imprisoned for up to seven years and flogged.
