An elderly man was enraged and ended up berating Upper Serangoon Mall staff when a temperature scanner failed to record his body temperature, Shin Min Daily News reported.
The incident, which occurred last Tuesday (October 13), was captured on camera and posted on the All Singapore Stuff Facebook page on Saturday (October 17).
In the two-minute long video, the old man is shown in a heated exchange with two security guards, pointing and yelling at them.
One of the security guards could also be heard hurling vulgarities at the old man.
It was only after the second security officer told the man to place his hand in front of the temperature scanner that he was finally able to record his temperature and was allowed to enter the premises.
Meanwhile, the man behind the camera joined the fray, threatening to report the old man to the police.
The old man replied, “I’m going to cut my hair. Come find me later.”
The elderly man was reportedly unable to scan SafeEntry’s QR code and refused to enter his details before approaching the temperature scanner, the Chinese daily reported.
When the scanner subsequently failed to register his temperature, he turned to the security guards and began berating them.
According to a mall employee who did not want to be identified, the police were called for help.
The security guards reportedly did not pursue the matter.
As the clip spread across the internet, netizens spoke on behalf of the old man and greatly sympathized with his plight, explaining that he might have been frustrated that he might not be familiar with temperature scanning technology.
They also disagreed with the security guard and cameraman, saying they had responded “rudely”.
To prevent such incidents from reoccurring, some also suggested that temperature control personnel could demonstrate how to use the machines.
