SINGAPORE: The weather for the second half of October is expected to be dry and warm, with daily highs around 34 degrees Celsius on most days, the Singapore Weather Service (MSS) said on Friday (October 16).

In the next two weeks, the monsoon rain band is forecast to spread over the northern region of Southeast Asia, which means that less rainfall is expected compared to the first half of October.

Warm conditions are expected most days, with daily highs of 34 degrees Celsius and lows of 25 degrees Celsius.

The temperature can approach 35 degrees Celsius in a few days, particularly when there are few clouds in the sky, the Met Service said.

“However, moderate to heavy short-duration localized stormy rains can still be expected on some days over parts of the island between morning and afternoon,” MSS said.

“Additionally, the Sumatra storms are forecast to bring stormy rains and gusty winds on some days between the hours before dawn and the morning.”

Overall, rainfall for the month is expected to be below normal in most parts of the country.

In the first two weeks of October, the monsoon rain band moved closer to the equatorial region of Southeast Asia, causing more rainfall in Singapore.

Due to tropical storms over the South China Sea and the northwestern Pacific Ocean, widespread moderate to heavy thunderstorms fell over Singapore for several days, mainly between night and before dawn.

“The rains were most intense on October 2, 2020, and the total daily rainfall recorded that day was 108.2 mm in Tuas.

“This was the highest rainfall recorded in one day during the first half of October 2020,” MSS said.

The highest temperature recorded during the last fortnight was 34.8 degrees Celsius in Pulau Ubin on October 5, while the lowest was 22.6 degrees Celsius in Clementi on October 3.
