SINGAPORE – Five new cases of coronavirus were confirmed as of noon on Wednesday (October 14), bringing Singapore’s total to 57,889.
They included two community cases and none of the workers’ bedrooms, the Ministry of Health (MINSA) said on Wednesday.
There were also three imported cases, which had been included in stay-at-home notices upon arrival in Singapore.
More details will be announced Wednesday night.
On Tuesday, a 31-year-old man from India who tested positive after completing his stay-at-home notice was among four confirmed imported cases, the Health Ministry said.
The Training Job Pass holder delivered his stay-at-home notice at a dedicated facility upon his arrival in Singapore on September 25. He was tested on October 5 while complying with the notice and the test result was negative.
He completed his stay-at-home notice last Friday and had symptoms the same day. He subsequently tested positive for Covid-19 infection on Monday in a pre-departure test conducted to return to India.
Between Friday and last Monday, he had mostly stayed in a hostel, Dream Lodge Singapore at 172 Tyrwhitt Road, but visited the tower block of the National University Health System (NUHS) last Friday.
There were no new local cases in the community or in workers’ bedrooms on Tuesday, the Health Ministry said.
The remaining three imported cases reported on Tuesday included a permanent resident who returned from India, a student pass holder who arrived from France, and a short-term visit pass holder who was allowed entry from the Kingdom. United to visit a hospitalized family member here.
All were placed on 14-day stay-at-home notices upon arrival in Singapore and were assessed while delivering their notices.
The Health Ministry also announced that a group at Mandai Lodge 1 was closed as it has had no new cases linked to it for 28 days, or two incubation periods.
The average number of new daily cases in the community in a week has decreased from two cases two weeks ago to less than one in the last week.
The number of unrelated cases in the community in one week has also decreased from a daily average of less than one case to none during the same period.
With 12 cases discharged on Tuesday, 57,725 patients have made a full recovery from the disease.
A total of 35 patients remained in hospital on Tuesday, none in intensive care, while 81 recovered in community facilities.
Singapore has had 28 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died from other causes.
Globally, the virus outbreak, which began in December last year, has infected more than 37.8 million people. More than 1.08 million people have died.
