SINGAPORE – A man driving a pickup truck became drowsy and nodded at the wheel, causing his vehicle to collide with a taxi.

Cabby Glenn Chandra Moghan Kumaran, 45, went to Sengkang General Hospital the following day, where he was found with injuries, including right wrist tenderness and low back pain.

The accident could also have aggravated his existing cervical spondylosis, a general degeneration of the spine.

The driver of the van, Neo Teck Han, received a maximum fine of $ 2,500 on Tuesday (October 13) after pleading guilty to causing harm to Glenn by negligent driving.

The 55-year-old Singaporean was also disqualified from driving vehicles of all classes for a year.

Assistant District Attorney Mark Yeo said Neo was driving a pickup truck in the third lane of Lower Delta Road around 2.30 p.m. on May 3 last year when he felt drowsy and fell asleep.

As a result, he was unable to maintain proper control of his vehicle and swerved to the left before colliding with the back of Mr. Glenn’s taxi.

The court heard that shortly before the accident, the taxi driver had stopped his taxi at a bus stop near the Teresa Ville condominium and turned on the hazard lights to indicate that he was stopped.

There was no mention of why he had stopped the taxi there.

After his truck collided with the taxi, Neo got out of his vehicle and alerted the police.

The DPP said that at the time of the accident, the weather was good, the road surface was dry, visibility was clear, and traffic flow was moderate.

Mr. Glenn went to the hospital and was then given 14 days of medical leave.

For causing injury by negligent driving, an offender can be jailed for up to six months and fined up to $ 2,500.
