Cuts of raw pork hanging from HDB’s windowsill cause a bad smell among neighbors and netizens

Some inhabitants of the HDB apartments have had their fair share of problems with their upstairs neighbors for hanging wet clothes to dry, but the essence of this problem is completely different.

A man visited the Facebook page Complaint Singapore yesterday (October 11) to post a rather strange sight outside his kitchen window: the house on a floor above him had hung seven cuts of pork belly from the windowsill. window.

It’s even weirder to see the thick chunks of meat hanging next to clothes drying on bamboo poles.

“My neighbors and I are speechless,” the man wrote. “Are they selling homemade bacon?” he questioned, calling pig lovers “ridiculous, selfish and [unhygienic]” people.

It’s unclear why anyone would want to hang raw meat outside HDB’s windows, but the closest guess is that they’re trying to make homemade canned pork belly. Although all of that would be wasted considering Singapore’s unpredictably humid conditions and exposure to insects could cause the meat to spoil due to bacterial growth.

The incident generated a red-hot comment section filled with people calling the act unhealthy. Not to mention the callousness towards Muslim neighbors who clearly won’t be content with pork fat on their clothes.

This wouldn’t be the first time, too, that people have been caught hanging raw pork outside their HDB apartment window. In March, the Nee Soon City Council had to force a family in Yishun to stop hanging meat on the clothesline, causing a bad odor (both literally and figuratively) with their downstairs neighbor.

“In view of public health and hygiene, we would also like to take the opportunity to remind residents not to hang any food on the laundry rack,” said a spokesman for the Nee Soon City Council at the time.
