SINGAPORE – More than 900 seats available for the dining experience at Singapore Airlines (SIA) A380 @ Changi restaurant sold out 30 minutes after reservations opened on Monday (October 12).

Customers who were unable to make a reservation after 12.30am were invited to join a waiting list, which has since also been closed.

Confirming that all seats were filled, a SIA spokesperson told The Straits Times: “Given strong demand and customer interest, Singapore Airlines will reopen the waiting list at KrisShop.com for a limited time starting at 6am. pm on October 12 for customers who are still interested in experiencing the A380 @ Changi restaurant. “

Those on the waiting list will be contacted if there is additional availability.

Mr. Lee Lik Hsin, SIA Executive Vice President (Commercial), said: “We are grateful for the extremely strong support from our customers and look forward to welcoming them to the A380 @ Changi Restaurant.”

Among those who managed to buy a lunch ticket was Mrs. Amy Tay.

The 34-year-old auditor, who considers herself a loyal SIA fan, said she got a ticket to the suite for herself and her one-year-old daughter. Tickets for infants two years and under can be purchased for $ 1.

“You may never have the opportunity to fly as a SIA Suites class passenger and I thought this would be a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience this cabin product,” he said.

Tay added that it will be her daughter’s first time on a plane and she hopes her purchase will help support the airline amid what has been a difficult period for the aviation industry.

Three-hour lunch costs $ 50 in the Economy Cabin, $ 90 for those who wish to sit in the Premium Economy Cabin, $ 300 for Business Class, and $ 600 for Suites.

By Monday morning, resellers had begun posting tickets for resale on the Carousell online marketplace. One ad offered two adult coach tickets for $ 188, while another asked for $ 3,000 in total for two suite tickets.

On September 28, SIA announced that members of the public can still experience the airline’s service, albeit on the ground, through three initiatives to be launched.

Two A-380 jets parked at Changi Airport will be converted into a restaurant on October 24 and 25, he said.

While the superjumbo can carry up to 471 passengers, only about half of the seats will be filled to observe social distancing measures.

The menu will feature international cuisines and a customized Peranakan menu for the temporary restaurant. Each meal will come with two free alcoholic beverages and a free stream of other beverages.

Diners will get other benefits like KrisShop discounts and a goodie bag. Those who show up in traditional clothing, such as sarong kebaya, cheongsam, or sari, will receive an additional gift.

Other precautions to reduce the risk of spreading the Covid-19 virus. These measures include cleaning and sanitizing the aircraft, limiting group sizes to five, implementing safe spacing, and doing a temperature check.

Both the crew and the diners must wear a mask at all times when on board, except when eating or drinking.

SIA also offers a tour of their training facilities and food delivery from their first class and business class menus.
