WASHINGTON (AFP) – US President Donald Trump said he was “drug-free” and revealed more details of his fight with Covid-19 in a televised interview broadcast on Friday (October 9), a week after who was hospitalized for the virus.

The president appeared on Fox’s Tucker Carlson Tonight for what the White House described as an on-air “medical evaluation” conducted remotely by Fox aide Dr. Marc Siegel.

“Right now I’m not on medication, you know, probably eight hours ago,” Trump told Dr. Siegel.

It was unclear when the interview was recorded, which Carlson said was filmed by a White House camera crew.

Trump’s doctors had previously said they had given him an aggressive cocktail of therapeutic drugs, including the steroid dexamethasone, generally associated with severe cases of Covid-19.

Trump also said he had been retested for the virus.

“I’ve been tested again and I haven’t even figured out the numbers or anything yet, but I’ve been tested again and I know I’m at the bottom of the scale or free,” he said.

He said he didn’t know when their next test would be, adding that “probably tomorrow … they test every other day.”

Trump said the virus had sapped his energy levels, adding that he “didn’t feel very vital.”

He also said that he “had no trouble breathing.”

His doctors have said they gave him supplemental oxygen at least twice, and the president later said lung tests had shown “some congestion there.”

Trump said he did not know where he had contracted the virus, adding: “It is very contagious. That is something you learn, this is a contagious disease.”
