How far would you go to drop a subject that you don’t like? For actress Eleanor Lee, she would be voluntarily separated from her mother, local television host Quan Yi Fong.

The 20-year-old is the latest guest on Yi Fong’s Hear U Out talk show, and she talked about her struggles with the Chinese language and how much she disliked it.

Her disdain and inability for the subject even made Yi Fong consider sending her to a school abroad, limiting her options to England, Canada, and the United States.

Eleanor went to Tao Nan Elementary School before attending Nexus International School.

At that time, Yi Fong explained to the girl that sending her to school abroad meant that they would separate. The latter began to cry and tremble.

Yi Fong, 46, dramatically recalled, “He turned to me and asked, ‘Mom, do we really have to be apart?’ I said, ‘Yes, Mom has to stay in Singapore to earn a lot of money.

“Then he asked, ‘Mom, when can I go?'”

Between fits of uncontrollable laughter, Eleanor exclaimed, “I really couldn’t bear to learn Chinese.”

8 points in the Chinese test, Yi Fong was enraged

Yi Fong also spilled the beans on how bad Eleanor was in Chinese – she scored 59 out of 100 on her Primary 1 Chinese language test. As the veteran presenter showed the test to the camera, Eleanor joked, “Actually, I’m quite proud “.

Yi Fong looked at him in disbelief before searching through a folder for another of Eleanor’s exams. “Then you will be even more moved by this [next paper]. You can light fireworks later. Primary 1 [Chinese Language exam] – 64 points “.

Eleanor also revealed that she once scored around eight points in a test and when she asked Yi Fong to sign the paper, the latter became enraged, crumpled and tore the paper before throwing it out the window.

Eleanor recalled, “She told me, ‘Go pick [the pieces]! Go and collect everything! If you don’t collect everything before 5 in the afternoon, don’t you dare go back.

“So I went down to pick up the pieces, but some fell on the neighbors’ balcony and I couldn’t get them back.”

After Yi Fong signed her proof, Eleanor and her assistant put the pieces back together. She brought it to school the next day, where she timidly pulled the paper, which “looked like trash,” from her bag.

“Everyone was surprised to see what happened to my exam. The teacher also didn’t dare ask questions and just picked it up,” Eleanor laughed.
