SINGAPORE – Nine new coronavirus cases have been confirmed as of Thursday (Oct. 8), bringing Singapore’s total to 57,849.

They included four infections from the workers’ bedrooms, the Ministry of Health (MINSA) said.

There were no new cases in the community for the second day.

There were also five imported cases that were included in stay-at-home notices when they arrived in Singapore.

More details will be released Thursday evening.

On Wednesday night, the Health Ministry said a total of 39 patients remained in the hospital, including one in the intensive care unit, while 150 were recovering in community facilities.

Three of the six imported patients reported on Wednesday had arrived in Singapore from Myanmar.

Among them were a 37-year-old man, who has a work pass, and two holders of a work permit: a 26-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman.

Another imported case, a 23-year-old man who is the holder of a Chinese work permit, arrived in Singapore from France, while a 27-year-old woman, also a holder of a work permit, had traveled from the Philippines.

The sixth imported case is a 35-year-old Indian national, holder of a short-stay visit pass who had arrived from the United Kingdom. The Health Ministry said the man’s wife is from Singapore.

All six imported patients tested positive for the virus on Tuesday.

All had been placed on 14-day stay-at-home notices upon arrival in Singapore and were evaluated while delivering their notices at specialized facilities.

Of the four patients reported from the dormitories, one had previously been identified as a previous case contact and had already been quarantined. It was tested during quarantine.

The remaining three cases in bedrooms were detected by surveillance tests, as routine biweekly tests.

The Ministry of Health added that two conglomerates have been closed, since they have not had new cases linked to them for 28 days, which are two periods of viral incubation.

The first, dorm S11 in Punggol, was located at 2 Seletar North Link, while the other group was linked to construction sites at 9 Penang Road and 8 Loyang Crescent.

The number of new daily cases in the community has remained stable at an average of one case per day in the last two weeks.

The number of unrelated cases in the community has also remained stable at an average of less than one case per day during the same period.

With 12 cases discharged on Wednesday, 57,609 patients have fully recovered from the disease.

Singapore has had 27 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died from other causes.

Globally, the virus outbreak, which started in December last year, has infected around 35.8 million people. More than a million people have died.
