Man Utd backs apologetic Solskjaer and denies successor approach

Manchester United have not approached Mauricio Pochettino about the possibility of succeeding Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the club’s manager, sources close to the club have told TEAMtalk.

Reports emerged Monday night suggesting that former Tottenham manager Pochettino was lined up to replace Solskjaer, who is under increasing pressure after United’s 6-1 loss at home to Tottenham on Sunday.

The Norwegian admitted that the Spurs setback was his “worst moment as Man United manager” but vowed to continue in an effort to find a solution to his team’s increasingly alarming problems.

The newspaper went on to report that “high-level figures from the club have contacted the Pochettino camp.”

While Pochettino is believed to have admirers in the Old Trafford boardroom, the club remains firm behind Solskjaer despite the club’s challenging start to the season.

An opening day loss to Crystal Palace was followed by a lucky win against Brighton before Spurs’ loss left Solskjaer and his players reeling into the international break.

However, it appears that Solskjaer will be allowed to continue in his role for the foreseeable future, and new signing Edinson Cavani will increase his attacking options ahead of United’s next Premier League game against Newcastle on 17 October.
