MANCHESTER, England: Manchester United made four signings on the day of the transfer deadline, including Uruguayan forward Edinson Cavani, while European champion Bayern Munich was strengthened with two newcomers.

But the biggest move on the final day of deals was midfielder Thomas Partey making a £ 45m trade from Atlético Madrid to Arsenal.

United signed Cavani in a free transfer, Brazilian left-back Alex Telles from Porto, 18-year-old Uruguayan winger Facundo Pellistri and they reached an agreement to sign Atalanta’s teenage winger Amad Diallo.

European champions Bayern signed right-back Bouna Sarr from Olympique Marseille and brought back Brazilian winger Douglas Costa on loan from Juventus.

Arsenal complied with the 45 million pound ($ 58.40 million) release clause for 27-year-old Ghana international Partey, who should add some steel to his midfield. Arsenal’s Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira moved in the opposite direction on loan.

United’s 6-1 home win against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday has increased the pressure on CEO Ed Woodward to give manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer some new options. Attacking back Telles and experienced former PSG striker Cavani are now joined by Dutch midfielder Donny van de Beek, who moved to United from Ajax last month.

Cavani was a free agent after leaving Paris St Germain and said he was looking forward to the challenge at Old Trafford.

“I really want to continue writing my little story in the football book and I know that is why my approach has to remain the same as always: work, work, work. I have had a conversation with the coach and this has increased my desire to wear this beautiful shirt, “he said.

Solskjaer said he hoped Cavani could increase the team’s firepower.

“He will bring energy, power, leadership and a great mentality to the squad, but more importantly, he will bring goals. He has had a brilliant career so far, winning trophies in almost every club he has played for, and he still has so much more. to give at the highest level, “said the Norwegian.

Pellistri joined United from Club Atlético Peñarol on a five-year contract, with the option to extend it for another year.

The speedy teenager has already played 37 times for the Uruguayan First Division club’s first team.

The 18-year-old Ivorian Diallo, whose signing could cost United up to 37 million pounds, including accessories, is not expected to join until January due to work permit issues.

Everton, who have had a 100 percent start to the season and lead the Premier League, added another defender to their squad with the arrival of center-back Ben Godfrey from Norwich City.

Carlo Ancelotti’s team also brought in Swedish goalkeeper Robin Olsen on loan from AS Roma for one season.

BAYERN STRENGTHEN

The right-back position has long been a focus of attention for Bayern, who won the Bundesliga and the Champions League last season and the 28-year-old Sarr is coming from Marseille on a four-year contract.

“Bouna Sarr is a dynamic right-back who fits in very well with the way we approach our game. He will help us in an important position,” said Hasan Salihamidzic, a member of Bayern’s sports board.

Douglas Costa left Bayern for Juventus three years ago and will join the club’s already impressive options in the wide areas.

Paris Saint Germain signed Brazilian midfielder Rafinha, 27, from Barcelona for three years.

In Italy, the most important move of the day was that Juventus signed Fiorentina winger Federico Chiesa for 50 million euros.

The 22-year-old was raised in Fiorentina and is the son of former player Enrico Chiesa, who was on the team that won Fiorentina’s last major trophy, the Coppa Italia in 2001.

Juve’s most important signing for this season was Brazilian midfielder Arthur from Barcelona. They have also signed Álvaro Morata from Atlético de Madrid and American midfielder Weston McKennie from Schalke 04.

Napoli signed striker Tiemoue Bakayoko on loan from Chelsea, meeting manager Gennaro Gattuso, who was at AC Milan when the Frenchman spent a season on loan at the San Siro.
