Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Atlético de Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey on a long-term contract.
The Spanish club announced that the Gunners complied with the £ 45 million release clause reported by the midfielder with minutes to spare on the transfer deadline.
The 27-year-old Ghana international played 35 times last season for Atlético, who say the Gunners made an offer that coincided with their release clause with 32 minutes left in the window.

“LaLiga informed Atlético de Madrid at 11:28 pm on Monday that Arsenal representatives have paid the termination clause for Thomas Partey at the sports association’s headquarters,” read a statement on Atlético’s website.

Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira has moved in the opposite direction, joining the LaLiga club on loan for one season.
On the signing of Partey, Arsenal manager Edu said: “Thomas has all the attributes needed to be a top Arsenal player.
