Here are Manchester United’s morning headlines for Sunday, October 4

Solskjaer drops football director track

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted that the club could still appoint a football director as he reviews the club’s processes in the transfer market behind the scenes.

But the Norwegian insists he is happy with United’s current setup, despite criticism from Sevilla’s sporting director Monchi, who said he “couldn’t believe” that a club like United didn’t have someone in a similar role .

United first raised the appointment of a football director, or sporting director, more than two years ago, but have yet to make an appointment.

Solskjaer said : “There are always people who want to talk about how well they are doing and how well they are doing.

“We all have different views on how football should be played and how clubs should be managed.

“We have good people running our club.

“There are always discussions behind the scenes, that people do not know, about how we are doing things and evaluating how we are doing them.

“It’s a process that the club is going through all the time, if we have the right people in the right positions.”

United expects Ibrahimovic-like impact from Cavani

Manchester United are close to signing free agent Edinson Cavani, and the club sees his experience and track record as positive in bringing in the 33-year-old.

The Uruguayan striker, who left Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, has been linked with several of Europe’s top clubs, but United are ready to sign him in a bid to add valuable competition to the front line.

Odion Ighalo is currently acting as a backup for Anthony Martial, but he has struggled to stay fit since the beginning of the season and Solskjaer has always emphasized the need for competition in the attacking areas.

Cavani’s track record of winning trophies in Europe with Napoli and PSG is understood to be what has attracted the club.

United also hopes to have an impact similar to that of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the Swedish forward who scored 28 goals in 46 games in his first season at Old Trafford after arriving in the summer of 2016 at the age of 34.

Solskjaer sends message to Wan-Bissaka after snub from England

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told Aaron Wan-Bissaka that it is up to him if he wants to improve in certain areas of his game after being left out of England’s last team.

Gareth Southgate has not called up the right-back for games against Wales, Denmark and Belgium, despite Wan-Bissaka being considered the best defensive back in the Premier League.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier, who are more offensive right backs, have been selected ahead of him on the squad for this international window.

Solskjaer said : “He entered the scene with Palace and had exceptional one-on-one thresholds on defense. It must be the best for me. It is almost impossible to pass one against one.

“There are different aspects of his game that he needs to learn, develop and improve.

“It comes down to what you want to do every day. How concentrated it is. “
