In a first, an adult was convicted of offering drugs to three minors last year, two of whom were 14 at the time, while the third was 13.
Noor Fadhilah Azlan had allowed the three high school students to use methamphetamine, a drug also known as Ice.
The 28-year-old’s crimes came to light after officers from the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) raided her residence in Bukit Batok West and arrested the four people.
Noor was sentenced yesterday to seven years and nine months in jail and a $ 10,300 fine.
He had pleaded guilty to three drug-related counts, including one count of allowing a person under the age of 21 to use a drug in their possession and three counts of unpaid cigarettes.
During sentencing, District Judge Kan Shuk Weng took into consideration eight other charges, of which five were drug-related and three were smuggled cigarettes.
Noor’s case is the first in Singapore in which a person has been convicted of allowing a person under the age of 21 to use a drug in their possession.
According to court documents, Noor was living with her two children in a rented room in an apartment on Bukit Batok West Avenue 4 at the time of her crimes on September 24 of last year.
The ages of the children were not indicated in the court documents.
The court heard that Noor, who was selling smuggled cigarettes, turned to drug dealing as a way to earn quick money.
She would get prepackaged ice through dead droplets around her property.
He then sold the drug to customers according to prices set by the supplier.
At approximately midnight on September 24 last year, Noor was smoking Ice in the bedroom when he decided to offer the drug to the three teenagers. They cannot be identified because they are under 18 years of age.
Assistant District Attorney Melina Chew said the teens, who used to hang out in the bedroom, had stayed for several days.
Two of them met Noor through his sale of smuggled cigarettes. One of the two, a 14-year-old girl, had also bought her Ice on previous occasions.
“When they indicated that they wanted to smoke Ice, the defendant allowed them to do so in the bedroom and proceeded to share her smoking utensil with them, and they all took turns inhaling the smoking utensil,” the prosecutor said.
The prosecutor added that the teens did not pay Noor for the ice they had consumed.
CNB agents raided the apartment the next day and arrested the four people, as well as two men, Noraidil Supri and Muhammad Sharil Ideres, both 37, who were at the residence to buy Ice a Noor.
Court documents did not indicate whether the men were prosecuted.
CNB agents also found 55 cartons and six packs of unpaid cigarettes in Noor’s bedroom.
The court heard that it was not the first time that smuggled cigarettes had been found on the floor.
Customs officers had discovered 93 unpaid cigarette packs in a raid of the unit a week earlier, after seeing Noor delivering cigarette packs to two 14-year-old boys, who were not identified in court documents, near apartment.
Yesterday, District Judge Kan granted Noor’s request to postpone his prison sentence until October 9, so that he can sort out his personal affairs.
For her crime of allowing a person under the age of 21 to use a drug in her possession, Noor could have been jailed for up to 10 years.
