SINGAPORE – Sixty-two women, ages 21 to 51, were arrested for their alleged involvement in addiction-related activities, police said on Thursday (October 1).

The suspects were arrested during a 38-day operation that ended on September 17 and involved coordinated raids at multiple locations, including condominiums, hotels and residential units. The areas where the raids took place include the Race Course Road, Alexandra Road, Zion Road, Upper Serangoon Road, Lorong Melayu, Changi Road, Geylang, Yishun, Woodlands and Hougang.

In a press release, police said they have observed an increase in the number of vice activities within residential properties, facilitated by the use of online platforms to advertise vice-related services and solicit clients.

“All property owners have a responsibility to ensure that such illicit activities do not take place on their properties. They must be vigilant and watch out for suspicious or dubious tenants, ”police said.

Homeowners convicted of failing to exercise reasonable diligence or knowingly renting their properties for vice-related activities face a fine of up to $ 100,000 or a jail term of up to five years. Repeat offenders can be fined up to $ 150,000, imprisoned for up to seven years, or both.
