SINGAPORE: A total of 342 workers living in Space @ Tuas’ dormitory have been transferred to a government quarantine facility after a new case of COVID-19 was recently detected, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) said on Thursday (October 1).
The case was confirmed Monday and detected through routine tests listed.
Safe life measures were “not strictly enforced” in the affected block where the case lived, the MOM said.
“As such, 342 residents, working for 27 employers, living in the affected block were considered at risk and were to be quarantined,” the ministry added.

Stay-at-home notices were previously issued to workers staying in the two Space @ Tuas dormitory blocks, after a preliminary assessment indicated that physical segregation measures to avoid mixing between the two blocks “may have been violated. “said MOM.
“Upon further investigation, it was established that workers from different blocks were unlikely to have mixed,” MOM said. “Therefore, the stay-at-home notice for the unaffected block was canceled.”

MOM urged all bedroom operators, employers and workers to adhere to strict security measures within bedrooms.
Dormitory operators must ensure that the measures remain effective, while workers must comply with the measures and stay within their respective residential zones, the ministry said.
This is so that if there is a case of COVID-19, only affected workers living in the same level or section, and not the entire block, should be quarantined, he said.
Employers must also make sure their workers consistently undergo the routine tests listed, MOM added.
