SINGAPORE – Singapore’s household electricity tariff will increase by an average of 1.83 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) during the October-December period, the SP Group said on Wednesday (September 30).

For households, the electricity rate before the 7 percent goods and services tax (GST) will increase by 9.3 percent from 19.60 to 21.43 cents per kWh from October 1 to December 31. The average monthly electric bill for families living in four-bedroom HDB apartments will increase by $ 7.01 (before 7% of GST).

SP Group said in a press release that the increase is due to higher energy costs, which forms an important component of the electricity tariff and is paid to power generation companies.

The gas and power distributor added that the revised rate and that of the previous quarter are the lowest in the last three years.

The remaining components of the rate remain unchanged. They consist of network costs and market support service rates for SP Group, as well as market administration and operation fees for the electricity system (paid to the energy market company and the electricity system operator).

Electricity rates are reviewed quarterly based on the guidelines established by the Energy Market Authority (EMA), which has approved the rates.
