SINGAPORE – A woman was enraged when she noticed that her domestic worker had arranged some clothes “incorrectly” in a dressing room and assaulted the Filipina.
Wee Yee Nee picked up some of the clothes, with the hangers still attached, and tossed them to 37-year-old Felisilda Sheila Marie Juromo.
The hangers had clips with relatively sharp edges on the side and one of them cut into the maid’s face when it hit her.
The 41-year-old Singaporean was sentenced on Wednesday (September 30) to one week in jail after she pleaded guilty to one count of assault.
He was also ordered to pay the maid $ 1,000 as compensation.
During the sentencing, two other charges related to Ms. Juromo, a second charge of assault and one charge of harassment, were considered.
The court heard that Ms Juromo began work in Wee’s flat on Cambridge Road, near Race Course Road, on January 23 last year.
The relationship between the two women gradually worsened, the court heard.
Deputy Prosecutor Norine Tan said: “The defendant became more easily agitated and angered at the victim and scolded her.
“According to the accused, this was, at times, because the victim lied.”
Wee was in his walk-in closet on March 30 of last year when he realized that Juromo had “incorrectly” placed four pieces of clothing on each hanger.
The DPP added: “She scolded the victim, who was standing at the entrance of the dressing room, and threw a pile of clothes with the hangers tied to the victim … One of the hangers hit the victim’s face and made her have a cut and bleeds above the right eyebrow. “
The area around the wound was swollen.
Then she put some ice on it and applied antiseptic cream to the affected area.
The court heard that Ms. Juromo filed a police report on April 12 of last year.
DPP Tan said that as a result of the abuse, the maid stopped working for Wee and found another employer about two months later.
Wee’s bond was set at $ 5,000 on Wednesday and she will turn up in state court on October 5 to begin serving her jail term.
For assaulting the maid, she could have been jailed for up to three years and fined up to $ 7,500.
