‘The real MOM!’ Eric Dier’s brilliant Instagram post after an urgent bathroom break in Tottenham’s win over Chelsea

Tottenham star Eric Dier has joked that his Man of the Match trophy should have been handed over to a bathroom after his penalty shootout win over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.

The English international had to leave the pitch in the middle of the second half of the fourth round tie , which the Spurs won 5-4 on penalties after finishing 1-1 in 90 minutes, to go to the bathroom.

José Mourinho ran to the locker room to rush him while Spurs were playing the game with 10 men at the time and he returned to the field and then scored on the penalty shoot-out.

Posting an image of the trophy on Instagram, which had been placed in the toilet and wrapped in toilet paper, Dier joked, “The real MOM.”

Mourinho says that Dier’s call of nature was the result of his superhuman effort.

Dier was selected 48 hours after playing in Sunday’s Premier League draw with Newcastle and Mourinho says the incident was the result of his extra workload.

“With Eric you can imagine what happened,” Mourinho said. “For him, coming off the pitch, it was easy to imagine what happened.

“I knew it, I was just pushing him to come back as soon as possible, because no more changes, and one less player is a consequence of something non-human he did, which was playing two games completely dehydrated, tired, not energy in the muscles.

“Of course he won’t play Thursday because it would definitely kill him.”

Mourinho responded with humor when it was pointed out that rushing someone to go to the bathroom can have the opposite effect.

He replied, “The problem is, it wasn’t a pee.”

Dier saw the funny side of this afterward and said he had no choice but to leave the field.

“After playing on Sunday and then tonight, it was not easy,” Dier told Sky Sports. “Maybe that was one of the reasons I had to run off the field in the second half. It wasn’t easy.

“I wasn’t happy, but I couldn’t do anything about it. Nature was calling! There was a possibility when I wasn’t on the field, but luckily they didn’t score.”

A long night was on the cards when the Spurs, playing without a recognized striker on the field, trailed in the 19th minute on Timo Werner’s first Chelsea goal.

But Mourinho’s men improved as the night wore on and deservedly tied in the 83rd minute through Erik Lamela, who sent him to penalties.
