LGD finally wins a game at Worlds with a win over Japan’s V3 Esports

Earlier today, LGD Gaming won its first game in the entry stage of the League of Legends World Championship. LGD, the fourth seed in China’s LPL, entered the opening phase of the tournament as a huge favorite to fight their way to the group stage, but faltered early with losses to PSG Talon and Rainbow7.

In today’s first competition against V3, LGD dominated Summoner’s Rift, mainly through its bottom lane, Ha “Kramer” Jong-hun. During the first two LGD games, Kramer seemed outmatched by opponents, posting a measly KDA of just 1.8 over the course of two brutal losses. To start today’s action, he immediately turned things around and posted a score of 10/0/6 to bring LGD to the finish line.

In true day and night fashion, Kramer, as well as the entirety of LGD, showed polished performance against V3. While the LJL reps definitely put in a lot of endurance effort, making the game much closer than necessary in points, LGD’s dominance across the map proved to be too much to handle in the end. LGD lost just one tower in the entirety of the 36-minute contest, while winning by 12,000 gold and earning an Ocean Soul in the process.

Now, as the team sits down to a 1-2 record, LGD has a chance to finish the free-for-all portion of their play-in schedule with an even record if they can win later today against Unicorns of Love. From there, some tiebreaker scenarios will likely have to be developed if LGD is to have a chance to make it to the main event of the tournament.

However, the work is not done yet. Later today, LGD’s fate will be up in the air as the team seeks redemption against a UOL team that looks poised to punch a ticket straight to the group stage.

Certainly the pressure is mounting for LGD Gaming, but with the team’s first win secured, perhaps a collective breather can be taken across the board.
