Jurong-Clementi City Council responded after a resident’s complaint that they saw a rat on a chicken rice stand at the Yuhua Hawker Center on September 13 at 8:30 p.m.

A Stomper informed Stomp about the incident and sent a video of what he saw.

In the video, a rat can be seen running above the street vendor’s stall signage.

“I think the people who run the street vendors and the cleaners at this street vendor should know this,” Stomper said.

“This rat doesn’t look very small. In fact, it looks like a mummy rat that can give birth to more rats next time.”

In response to a query from Stomp, a spokesperson for the Jurong-Clementi City Council said: “The city council is aware that markets and street vending centers generate food waste and can attract pests.

“So we have a rat attack program at the market and hawker center at Blk 347 Jurong East Avenue 1.

“This involves systematically inspecting common areas for signs of burrowing and rat activity and conducting night-time slaughter activities.

“As part of our cleaning program, we also do spring cleaning of the market and vending center once every three months.

“Following the report, we also did an immediate review of the environment around the street vendor center.

“We have engaged the local community, the street vendor association, and the National Environment Agency (NEA) to help us remind stall owners, as well as table cleaners, to ensure proper disposal. of food scraps to keep the rodent population in check. “
