Raid discovers over 300,000 recycled used condoms for sale in Vietnam, Asia News

In general, it is a good idea to reduce, reuse and recycle, but not when it comes to condoms.

Some frisky people in Vietnam may unintentionally put on recycled condoms.

A raid on a facility in Binh Duong province on September 19 found that 324,000 used condoms weighing a total of 360 kg were recycled.

The condoms were washed, dried and reshaped with a dildo in unsanitary conditions, authorities who arrested the illegal operation said.

They also discovered thousands of repackaged condoms that were intended to be resold to unsuspecting customers.

All the items were seized by the authorities.

A 32-year-old woman who ran the facility said that every month she received thousands of used condoms from an unidentified person.

According to Tuoi Tre News, Vietnamese use between 500 and 600 million condoms each year. However, condoms produced in such unsanitary environments can pose a threat to the health of users.

While condoms protect people from the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancy, they are only designed for single use, experts said.

Washing a condom with soap will not kill all the bacteria or viruses lurking on its surface. Doing so only increases the likelihood that the latex will break down, explained an epidemiologist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

In the wake of public concerns about condom use in 2018, the CDC had to remind people not to wash or reuse condoms.

“We say it because people do it,” they said in a tweet.
