Five mayors sworn in at the headquarters of the Popular Association

SINGAPORE – Five mayors were sworn in on Wednesday (September 23) at the headquarters of the People’s Association (PAHQ) after a ceremony presided over by the president of the Palestinian Authority, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

Low Yen Ling, who is also the Chairman of the Mayors Committee, Denise Phua and Desmond Choo were re-elected as mayors of the Southwest, Central Singapore and Northeast districts respectively.

Alex Yam and newly elected Member of Parliament Fahmi Aliman succeed Dr. Teo Ho Pin and Dr. Maliki Osman as mayors of the Northwest and Southeast Districts, respectively.

The term of mayors begins from July 27 to July 26, 2023.

About 400 guests were invited to the ceremony virtually, a first for the event, the Palestinian Authority and the Community Development Council (CDC) said in a joint press release.

In a post on his Facebook page, Lee said that the mayors of Singapore are CDC presidents of the five respective districts.

“CDC plays an important role in our social support system. They not only implement government programs, but also serve as eyes and ears on the ground. They connect with communities and identify emerging needs and gaps in social support, ”added Lee, who congratulated mayors on their appointments.
