SINGAPORE – The Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) provided more details on Tuesday (September 22) on the additions made to the eligibility criteria for the COVID-19 Support Grant, which has been extended until December 31.
These changes, which will take effect from 9 a.m. M. From October 1, include requiring applicants who do not own more than one property and that unemployed applicants demonstrate job search or training efforts in addition to current criteria, MSF said in a press release.
“The intent of the additional job search / training requirement is to ensure that applicants take active steps to improve their employment situation. Applicants who have not started looking for work / training can do so and apply for the COVID-19 Support Grant when they are ready, ”added the ministry.
“Applicants who own more than one property would not be eligible for the COVID-19 support grant, as the intent of the grant is to support those with fewer resources. This requirement is aligned with the Self Employed Income Relief Plan (SIRS). “
Unemployed applicants must show proof (letters, emails, or screenshots) that they have made at least one job application or attended at least one interview within two months of applying for the grant.
They can also self-declare their job search efforts by providing the name, contact and address details of the employer they contacted and the date of their interview. MSF will carry out more checks on the information provided, the ministry said.
Otherwise, they can show proof that they are doing internships, such as those offered in the SGUnited Skills Package or SkillsFuture.
These changes apply to both first-time applicants and individuals who are currently or have received the COVID-19 support grant and meet the revised eligibility criteria after the grant ends, when they apply for the grant between the October 1 and December 31. .
First-time applicants who meet the current eligibility criteria can continue to apply for the grant until 6pm on September 30, MSF said.
The COVID-19 support grant, introduced in May, is intended to help Singapore residents (Singaporeans and permanent residents) who have lost their jobs, were placed on involuntary leave without pay, or suffered a significant wage loss of at least the 30 percent three months during the pandemic.
Allows eligible applicants to receive up to $ 800 per month for three months. Other criteria applicants must meet include living in a property with an annual value of $ 21,000 or less. Family income must also be up to $ 10,000 or a per capita income of $ 3,100 or less.
Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat had announced the grant extension during a publicly broadcast Ministerial Statement last month.
He then said that more than $ 90 million has been disbursed to help more than 60,000 residents since the grant was introduced.
