SINGAPORE: The passenger who fled the scene after a high-speed car chase ended on Canberra Street last weekend was arrested along with four others for suspected drug-related crimes, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said on Thursday (September 17).

The 29-year-old Singaporean man was arrested Wednesday after CNB conducted “extensive investigations” to establish his identity, he said in a press release.

CNB officers made a “forced entry” when they raided the man’s hideout on Anchorvale Road because he “refused to obey the officers’ legal orders to open the door.”

“When the officers approached to arrest him, he fought violently and force was used to subdue him,” CNB said.

Seven packages of approximately 6 g of ice and various drug paraphernalia were found in the unit.

A 31-year-old Singaporean woman was also arrested at the same location for alleged drug-related activities. She had her four month old baby with her.

Preliminary investigations showed that the woman had been abusing Ice during her pregnancy, CNB said.

“Appropriate arrangements were made to ensure the well-being of the baby was taken care of. Later, the baby was placed in the safe custody of a relative, “he added.

In the early hours of Saturday, Traffic Police officers patrolling the Autopista Central (Autopista Seletar) near Avenida Ang Mo Kio 1 saw a driver driving “at a relatively slow speed” in the far right lane and they told him to stop.

Instead of doing so, the driver sped up and the officers chased after him.

The car subsequently climbed onto a curb along Canberra Street and crashed into a tree before coming to a stop.

The male driver was arrested for dangerous driving, driving without a valid driver’s license, and suspected drug-related offenses.

The passenger, a 29-year-old man, got out of the car and fled on foot, being arrested four days later.

DRIVER WHO HAD PICKED UP FLEEING SUSPECT ARRESTED

CNB officers also arrested a 34-year-old Singaporean man on Corporation Walk on Tuesday for alleged drug-related offenses. The man had picked up the fleeing suspect in a pickup truck during Saturday’s chase.

Officers also arrested two other people, a 31-year-old Singaporean and a 25-year-old Singaporean woman, in a follow-up operation Tuesday night on Ho Ching Road.

A search of his residential unit was conducted and a package containing approximately 1 g of ice was recovered, along with various drug paraphernalia, CNB said.

Preliminary investigations showed that the 25-year-old woman had bought the ice pack from the suspect in the high-speed chase about two weeks ago.

Investigations into the drug activities of all the suspects are ongoing, CNB said, adding that police are investigating the 29-year-old man for trafficking offenses.
