SINGAPORE – The Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed 34 new cases of COVID-19 in Singapore as of Tuesday (September 15), bringing the country’s total to 57,488.

All but two of the new cases are asymptomatic and were proactively detected, the Health Ministry said.

No community cases for the second day in a row. All six imported cases, including two permanent residents, had traveled from India.

The remaining 28 cases are foreign workers living in dormitories, of whom 13 had previously been identified as contacts from previous cases and had already been quarantined.

Overall, 12% of new cases have no established links.

The Health Ministry said Tuesday that the number of new cases in the community has decreased, from an average of two cases per day in the previous week to an average of one per day in the past week.

Similarly, the number of unrelated cases in the community has also decreased, from an average of two cases per day in the previous week to an average of one per day in the past week.

All but one of the imported cases, including two PRs, two work permit or pass holders and two dependent pass holders, arrived from India to Singapore on September 3. One case, one of the holders of the pass of the two dependents, had arrived on August 30.

All were placed on the 14-day stay-at-home notice upon arrival here and screened while serving their notice at dedicated facilities, the Health Ministry said.

Starting at 12 a.m. On Thursday, Singaporean non-residents, who are not Singaporeans and permanent residents (PR), must test negative for the virus before traveling from India to Singapore.

The move was announced by authorities last week due to the resurgence of COVID-19 infections in India and a significant number of imported cases with recent trips to the country.

15 bedroom cases detected by surveillance tests

Of the 28 cases residing in dormitories, 13 had previously been identified as previous case contacts and were evaluated during quarantine, the Health Ministry said.

The remaining 15 cases were detected by surveillance tests, he added.

In addition to the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, administered by smear, serological tests were also performed to determine whether some of the cases are current or past infections.

“The results of the serological tests of 14 cases have been positive so far, indicating a probable past infection,” the Ministry of Health said.

Of Singapore’s COVID-19 count, 54,242, or 94.4 percent, are foreign workers living in dormitories.

About 99% of all cases have recovered

With 82 more patients discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities on Tuesday, 56,884 cases, or 98.9 percent of the total, have fully recovered from the infection.

Most of the 51 hospitalized cases are stable or improving, while none are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

A total of 526 patients with mild symptoms or who are clinically well but still test positive are isolated and cared for in community facilities.

In addition to 27 patients who died from complications of COVID-19, another 15 who tested positive for the virus were determined to have died from unrelated causes, including three whose deaths were attributed to a heart attack and another four whose deaths were attributed to coronary heart disease. . heart disease.
