“With less than 1 percent of the land set aside for agricultural food production, our farms have to make efficient use of scarce resources such as land, water and energy,” SFA said.

“Farms must take advantage of technology to increase productivity and be sustainable and resilient to climate change.”

This is the sixth tranche of agricultural land tenders in Singapore since 2017.

THE REHABILITATION OF LIM CHU KANG

SFA has set a goal of producing 30% of the country’s nutritional needs by 2030.

“Proposals that can achieve high levels of production in a sustainable manner will have a greater chance of receiving these new parcels of land,” SFA said.

The agency added that it will evaluate the proposals on their production capacity, track record, experience and relevant qualifications, as well as business innovation and sustainability, including waste management.

Senior Director of Food Supply Resilience Melvin Chow said SFA will plan and schedule future land tenders to support promising farms that can achieve the high levels of food production needed to meet the goal of “30 by 30 “.

“The SFA is also looking at how the largest agricultural area in Lim Chu Kang can be redeveloped to improve our food production, considering feedback from farm operators for centralized facilities and services, as well as the principles of circular economy. “said Mr. Chow.

“SFA will work with farms, including successful bidders in land sale exercises, toward an exciting vision for Lim Chu Kang.”
