SINGAPORE – 48 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed as of noon on Monday (September 14), bringing Singapore’s total to 57,454.

There were five imported cases, which were placed on stay-at-home notices upon arrival in Singapore, the Ministry of Health (MINSA) said.

There were no new community cases.

More details will be announced Monday night.

On Sunday, the Health Ministry reported 49 new cases of coronavirus, most of which are migrant workers in dormitories.

New patients outside the dormitories comprised one case in the community and eight imported cases, the Health Ministry said.

The only community case is a 42-year-old work permit holder that is not linked to previous cases. This means that it is not known where it was infected.

He was asymptomatic, but was tested as part of routine testing of workers in the construction, marine and process sectors that remain outside of bedrooms.

Of the eight imported cases, two, a Singaporean and a permanent resident, had returned to Singapore from India.

Four others are work permit holders currently working in Singapore and arrived from the Philippines on August 30.

The remaining cases are dependent pass holders who arrived from India and the United States.

All of them had been placed on 14-day stay-at-home notices upon arrival and were evaluated while delivering their notices at specialized facilities.

The Health Ministry also said that the average number of daily new cases in the community in a week has decreased to one in the last week, compared to two cases in the previous week.

The number of unrelated cases in the community has also decreased from a daily average of two cases to one during the same period.

As for migrant workers in dormitories, cases continue to be detected.

Since the bedrooms were declared Covid-19 free a month ago on August 11, an average of 45 workers tested positive for the disease daily, the Health Ministry revealed last Wednesday.

They were detected primarily through active surveillance testing, such as routine checklist testing, and aggressive screening and testing when a new case is detected.

With 65 patients discharged by noon Sunday from hospitals or community care facilities, a total of 56,749 have made a full recovery from the infection.

There are currently 60 confirmed cases that are still in the hospital. Most are stable or improving, and none are in the intensive care unit.

There are also 555 patients recovering in community facilities.

They include those who have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.

Singapore’s official death tally from Covid-19 complications is 27, but another 15 who tested positive for the virus have died from other causes.

Globally, the virus outbreak, which began in December last year, has infected more than 29.1 million people. More than 927,000 people have died.
