SINGAPORE – The Ministry of Health (MINSA) announced on Thursday (September 10) two new Covid-19 clusters in the dormitories of foreign workers.

They were Avery Lodge Dormitory at Jalan Papan in the Jurong area with 35 patients, and PPT Lodge 1A at Seletar North Link with eight cases.

63 new coronavirus patients were also announced on Thursday, bringing Singapore’s total to 57,229.

Of these, 55 stay in dormitories. Twenty-six of them are part of Avery Lodge’s new group of bedrooms.

The new cases announced Thursday included two community cases, which included a Singaporean citizen and a work permit holder.

The Singaporean, a 36-year-old man, was linked to three previous imported cases that are members of his family. They had returned from India on August 24 and were placed on stay-at-home notices in a dedicated facility upon their arrival in Singapore.

While the man had not traveled abroad with them, he requested to care for his spouse and young children in the quarantine facilities and was in isolation with them since Aug. 24, the Health Ministry said.

The other case in the community, a 33-year-old Chinese citizen, was dissociated from other patients. It was detected as a result of routine tests listed on workers in the construction, marine and process industries living outside of bedrooms. This was despite the fact that he showed no symptoms.

Meanwhile, six new imported patients were announced on Thursday.

Among them is a Singaporean who returned to Singapore from the United Arab Emirates on August 29.

Four of them are workers currently employed here. One is a work pass holder who arrived from Bangladesh on August 31, while another work pass holder arrived from Russia on August 29. Two holders of a work permit arrived from Indonesia on August 29.

The remaining imported patient is a student pass holder who arrived from the Philippines on August 27.

All of them were placed on 14-day stay-at-home notices upon arrival in Singapore, and were tested while delivering their notices at specialized facilities.

A new location was added to the list of places visited by Covid-19 infectious patients on Thursday.

Yaleju-Tong Bei Huo Guo Pte Ltd, a restaurant at 149 Geylang Road, was visited by at least one patient between 10 a.m. and 12.05 p.m. on Aug. 30, the Ministry of Health said.

The average number of new daily cases in the community in a week has decreased from three cases two weeks ago to two in the last week.

The number of unrelated cases in the community in one week has also decreased from a daily average of two cases to one during the same period.

With 66 cases discharged on Thursday, 56,543 patients have made a full recovery from the disease.

A total of 47 patients remain in hospital, none in intensive care, while 597 recover in community facilities.

Singapore has had 27 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died from other causes.
