Beneath Ms. Beatrice Yeo’s professional demeanor is a combative attorney, unafraid to pave her own path in the legal industry.
This is how she received prestigious awards and accolades as a young attorney and was recognized as a rising star in family law early in her career.
Now in her 40s, Ms. Yeo recounts her experiences as a rookie lawyer of going to clients’ homes “to stop the violence or find shelter for my clients and their children,” and even take them to the hospital or police station. if i needed help. “I was so passionate about divorce and family law,” he says.
While his customers were grateful, the opposing parties were not. However, that never stopped him from standing up for justice and doing everything he can to help his clients.
The same impulse inspired her to found the law firm Yeo & Associates LLC in 2009, specializing in matrimonial and divorce law. The firm’s growth has been exponential: it now has 10 specialized family attorneys and eight legally trained legal managers.
With a dedicated team handpicked by Ms. Yeo, the firm has consistently won awards in the best family lawyer category and has been named one of Singapore’s leading divorce law firms more than 20 times.
Champion of her cause
The managing director, who has handled more than 20,000 divorce cases to date, believes she is a pioneer in advocating for fixed costs for divorce cases in Singapore.
She says, “Family law should be charged on a fixed cost structure, rather than an hourly charge that commercial lawyers often do.”
This cost structure gives their clients the confidence to go through the legal process to achieve fairness and justice, without worrying about hourly fees. She notes that with its “fixed cost structure,” the firm has been able to enjoy phenomenal growth in size and clientele, primarily through word of mouth.
Yeo & Associates LLC is also constantly identifying new ways to help clients. In 2018, she invested a six-figure sum to establish the divorceb<2MASCULINE>.com.sg portal, which helps clients complete divorce applications from the comfort of their homes in 30 minutes or less.
The portal, which took two years to develop, brings in at least 50 cases a month. Using technology also saves time and costs, Ms. Yeo adds.
Putting customers first
More importantly, the portal ties in with the company’s goal of encouraging clients to resolve their marriage disputes amicably. Clients in a conversational position are encouraged to negotiate and discuss issues prior to settling an uncontested divorce, rather than incurring excessive legal expenses.
Ms. Yeo points out: “If there is a possibility of reaching an agreement in the marriage in an amicable way, especially when the couple can still communicate with each other, there is no reason to go to lawyers to file for divorce. But if clients need legal advice before proceeding, they should reach out to us. “
The portal provides templates with terms and wording “carefully formulated through my
years of experience, and that is what the court would accept ”.
Today, he has chosen to focus on preparing younger attorneys with his vast experience, although he still has a burning desire to handle difficult situations and take on complicated cases.
Ms. Yeo recalls her legal background: “It took me many years to develop the skills necessary to be equipped to handle all facets of family problems and disputes, and to advance my clients’ cases in the best possible format.”
