SINGAPORE: The Ang Mo Kio City Council said on Monday (September 7) that it is investigating the cause of a pipeline drowning after fecal matter overflowed onto an empty deck last week.
A preliminary investigation showed that an “underground pipeline was clogged,” the city council said, causing fecal matter to spill onto the empty floor of Block 639 at 6 Ang Mo Kio Avenue.
The incident began Thursday morning, a spokesman for the Ang Mo Kio City Council said in response to inquiries from the CNA.
“The incident started with a resident who (gave) feedback that the water in his toilet could not flow through the trap in his gully,” the city council said, adding that the problem was fixed Thursday.
But the next morning, he was alerted to another incident with “an overflow of fecal matter on the void deck.”

In response, the city council cordoned off and cleaned up the area, the spokesperson said, noting that public health and safety considerations were “paramount.”
“To avoid further recurrence, we have temporarily diverted the waste to the sewer.”
The exact cause of the clogged pipe is still under investigation, the spokesperson added.
The City Council said it will continue with inspection and rectification works on Monday in conjunction with the Home Improvement Program contractor.
The affected block is currently under the Home Improvement Program, which addresses common maintenance issues related to aging floors.
