Apple’s new 27-inch iMac is a beast. Starting at $ 1,799, with the option to price it up to $ 8,799 that drains the bank account, it’s designed for both everyday users who need a large-screen desktop that will last, and professionals looking for a single-size powerlifter. computer without having to step up either the outrageous iMac Pro or Mac Pro.
I’ve been using a decked out version of Apple’s 27-inch iMac (AAPL) as my work computer for the better part of a month, and it has proven capable of handling everything I’ve thrown at it. From gaming to photo editing, it’s never about breaking a sweat.
It doesn’t hurt to include a beautiful 5K display and an upgraded webcam that’s perfect for our new dystopian world of work from home.
It’s an amazing desktop that’s worth the investment, as long as you can afford the entry price.
The 27-inch iMac uses the same design as the current 21.5-inch iMac, with an incredibly thin body and base that almost makes the screen appear to float above your desk. It’s a understated look that instantly makes your desk look more elegant.
All cables connect to the back of the system and pass through a space in the bracket to hide them. It’s also why Apple includes its Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard in the box. I’m used to typing on my MacBook all day, so I wasn’t bothered by the fact that this keyboard wasn’t raised.
There is also the problem that the USB C charging port for the mouse is located at the bottom, which makes it impossible to use while it is charging.
But you’re not buying this machine for the keyboard or mouse, which are still wonderful despite those objections. You’re getting it for its massive 27-inch screen and massive power.

That screen, with its 5K resolution, is perfect for users who want to retouch photos with precise details. And because it uses Apple’s nano-texture glass, a $ 500 add-on, it offers the benefits of a matte screen: It reduces glare in well-lit environments without dulling or blurring the actual image on the screen.
If you’re buying this all-in-one for any type of multimedia work, the nano-texture glass can be a huge benefit and has reduced glare from overhead lights in my kitchen.
In addition to its display, the 27-inch iMac now has an improved 1080p FaceTime camera that captures sharp, colorful images. Additionally, Apple says that the T2 chip included in the iMac works in conjunction with the system’s three-speaker array to provide improved audio quality while video chatting. The new camera is a welcome improvement, especially with so many people working from home.
Beyond its monstrous display, the other reason you’re probably looking at the 27-inch iMac is because of its sheer power. The entry-level version of the desktop comes with a 6-core 10th generation Intel (INTC) Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, an AMD (AMD) Radeon Pro 5300 graphics chip, and a 256GB solid state drive. That’s a solid system, no doubt, but nowhere near the top of the line.
That absolute unit of a computer features a 10-core 10-core Intel Core i9 processor, an absurd 128GB of RAM, an AMD Radeon Pro 5700 XT with 16GB of memory, and an 8TB SSD. You buy that version of the 27-inch iMac and NASA will call you to ask if you can run your next space launch.

The review unit I’ve been using isn’t that powerful, but I’m sure it could at least operate some kind of super villain-style laser weapon, or something like that. It features a 10-core 10-core Intel Core i9 processor, 32GB of RAM, an AMD Radeon Pro 5700 XT with 16GB of memory, and a 1TB SSD for $ 4,499.
The iMac handled everything I threw at it. The system broke teeth with the popular Geekbench 5 CPU benchmark test, scoring 1220 for single-core and 9678 for multi-core. However, the benchmarks are difficult to quantify because they don’t really give you an understanding of what that power means in terms of real-world performance.
To do that, I played a few games, including “Tomb Raider,” that the iMac was able to run at 60 frames per second with the enhanced settings. It’s an older game, which means that the system requirements aren’t as high as a newer title, but it still shows how powerful this iMac is.
Boy, if I had the money and Macs ran more games, I’d drop my money on this monster in no time. It has a fantastic screen, a wonderful design, and energy to spare. For everyone else, the 27-inch iMac will certainly meet your needs and it’s worth the money.
For professionals looking for a system that they can use for video and photo editing, this is a fantastic solution.
