SINGAPORE: Singapore reported 40 new COVID-19 cases as of noon on Sunday (September 6), including four in the community and 13 imported cases, the Ministry of Health (MINSA) said.
This brings the total number of cases in the country to 57,022.
COMMUNITY CASES
Three of the community infections were work permit holders and one was a work pass holder.
Of the four community cases, three were detected as a result of surveillance and detection by the Ministry of Health, and one had previously been quarantined.
All four cases are asymptomatic and were detected through proactive tests by the Ministry of Health.
Two of the community cases are linked to previous cases or groups. A 27-year-old Bangladeshi man was identified as a contact for a previously confirmed case and was quarantined earlier.
A 34-year-old Indian national is linked to a new group at CDPL Tuas Dormitory, which previously got rid of the disease. It was detected as a result of routine tests carried out by the Ministry of Health on workers in the construction, marine and process sectors that live outside the bedrooms.
The other two community cases are currently unrelated. Both were also detected as a result of the routine tests listed.
“In general, the number of new cases in the community has decreased, from an average of three cases per day in the previous week, to an average of two per day in the last week,” the Health Ministry said.
“The number of unrelated cases in the community has increased, from an average of one case per day in the previous week to an average of two per day in the last week.”
Three new places were also added to the list of public places visited by COVID-19 cases in the community during its infectious period.

IMPORTED CASES
The 13 imported cases were placed on stay-at-home notices upon arrival in Singapore, the Health Ministry said.
Four of these cases are Singaporean and two are permanent residents who returned to Singapore from India between August 24-26, and the Philippines on August 25.
Five work permit holders and one work pass holder currently employed in Singapore arrived from India on August 25, Indonesia on August 24 and 25, and the Philippines on August 23 and 25.
The remaining imported case is a 45-year-old student pass holder that arrived from India on August 25.
THREE NEW CLUSTERS IN BEDROOMS
The remaining 23 cases reported Sunday were those in bedrooms. Five of them were previously identified as contacts from previous cases, the Health Ministry said.
The remaining 18 cases were detected through surveillance tests, such as routine tests with biweekly lists of workers living in dormitories.
“This allows us to detect cases early, including asymptomatic ones, so that we can quickly fence them to prevent further transmission, by aggressively containing, tracing and isolating close contacts,” the Health Ministry said.
In addition to the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, the Ministry of Health conducted serological tests to determine whether some of these cases are current or past infections.
“The results of the serological tests of eight cases have so far tested positive, indicating probable past infections,” the ministry explained.
The Health Ministry also reported on three new dormitory clusters that were previously cleared of COVID-19: Cassia @ Penjuru at 15 Penjuru Walk, CDPL Tuas Dormitory at 6 Tuas South Street 15, and Kranji Lodge I at 12 Kranji Road.
Thirteen of the previously confirmed cases have now been linked to form a new group at Cassia @ Penjuru.
Seven of the newly confirmed cases are linked to 10 previous cases to form a new group at CDPL Tuas Dormitory.
Five of the previously confirmed cases have now been linked to form a new group at Kranji Lodge I.
MORE PEOPLE DOWNLOADED
A total of 66 more COVID-19 patients have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities, the Health Ministry said.
In all, 56,333 have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities.
There are currently 51 confirmed cases that are still in the hospital, the ministry said. Of these, most are stable or improving, and no one is in the intensive care unit.
A total of 611 patients are isolated and cared for in community facilities.
These are people who have mild symptoms or are clinically well, but still test positive for COVID-19.
Twenty-seven people have died from complications due to COVID-19.
THREE NEW CLUSTERS ON SATURDAY
On Saturday, the Health Ministry announced that new clusters were identified in three more bedrooms that had previously been cleared of COVID-19.
The new groups are located at Cochrane Lodge 1 at 51 Admiralty Road West, Mandai Lodge 1 at 460 Mandai Road, and Tuas South Dormitory at 1 Tuas South Street 12.
On Wednesday, the ministry announced that it had removed 41 COVID-19 cases from the total count after further investigations showed them to be negative.
In response to inquiries from the CNA, the Health Ministry said on Saturday that these cases were incorrectly recorded or duplicated entries, or those that were reclassified after laboratory investigations and medical evaluation, the ministry added.
