SINGAPORE – The Attorney General’s Office (AGC) will study the High Court ruling of Judge Chan Seng Onn following the acquittal of a former domestic worker of robbing the chairman of Changi Airport Group, Liew Mun Leong, and his family.

In reaching his decision, one of Judge Chan’s findings was that there was reason to believe that the Liew family took the precautionary measure of terminating the maid’s employment suddenly and without giving her enough time to pack, in the hope that she would not. did it. Use the time to file a complaint with the Ministry of Manpower about her illegal deployment to work for Karl, Liew’s son, she said.
She found that when she had threatened to complain to the MOM after her sudden termination, Mr. Liew and Mr. Karl Liew filed the police report to prevent her from returning to Singapore to file a complaint with the ministry.
He also did not believe the evidence from various members of the Liew family on various issues, he added.
The AGC will study the ruling to assess what additional measures, if any, should be taken in this case, in light of Judge Chan’s comments, the AGC said.
“Their findings raise questions that warrant further investigation.”
Parti Liyani, 46, was charged with stealing more than $ 34,000 worth of items from the Liew family while working for them.
After a trial, she was found guilty of four counts of robbery and sentenced to two years and two months in jail in March of last year.
She later appealed to the Superior Court against her conviction and sentence and was acquitted last Friday.
Parti’s attorney, Anil Balchandani, previously said he would file a claim for compensation from the Liew family that will be tied largely to four years of his salary, which was $ 600 a month.
“Whatever amount we get, I think we will necessarily be grateful,” he said.
