Fabio Silva confirmed

After a quiet start in the summer window, the Wolves have announced a great signing.

Fabio Silva is the latest man to join Nuno’s project at the club, and the forward was introduced with a short montage at Wanderers Twitter feed.

The fee that brought Silva from Porto is a new transfer record for the club, costing around £ 35 million.

Silva, 18, will join the Wolves next Monday after signing a five-year contract.

The wonderful boy jumped to the top after scoring 20 goals in 26 games for Porto’s youth team, making his senior debut at the beginning of last season.

Now he will continue his development with Wolves, as a highly qualified young man with much to prove, and as the last step in a promising and exciting project that continues to grow at Molineux.

Manchester United theory

Manchester United fans believe that Fabio Silva’s move to Wolverhampton Wanderers could spell the end of Raúl Jiménez’s time at Molineux.

Jiménez has been strongly linked with a move to United, and Premier League champion Liverpool is also credited with an interest in the Mexican international.

The transfer fee for the FC Porto youngster overshadows the record £ 30 million outlay Wolves paid for Jiménez in April last year.

Jiménez, who has scored 44 goals in 99 appearances for Wolves, scored an impressive 27 goals for Nuno Espirito Santo’s team in the 2019-20 season.

Silva is highly unlikely to take Jimenez’s place at the helm, but some United fans believe Jimenez could be available as a result of the youngster’s arrival at Molineux.

“Jiménez for sale then?” asked a fan.

“Give the Wolves Diogo Dalot and cash for Jimenez as they need a right back and they just bought a forward for £ 35m,” said another.

“Here come again the rumors of Jiménez …” added a third follower.

“Manchester United should make an offer for Jiménez,” said another.

A fifth fan asked, “Surely this means Jiménez is dating?”

Shi speak

Wolverhampton Wanderers president Jeff Shi has spoken about Fabio Silva’s record arrival at the club from FC Porto.

Silva was confirmed as a Wolves player on Saturday night in a deal worth around £ 35 million, dwarfing the fee paid to Benfica by striker Raúl Jiménez in April 2019 when his loan to Molineux became permanent.

Silva, 18, comes after a great season at Porto that saw him make 21 appearances for Sergio Conceicao’s team, scoring three goals.

Comparisons have been made to the Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo, with Silva considered one of the most popular properties in Europe.

The Portugal U-19 forward was followed by the Wolves for a while and now Shi has been discussing Silva’s move to Molineux and how it came about.

“We have been following Fabio’s development for a long time,” he told the club’s website.

He is a player that you only need a few minutes to see his natural soccer talent.

“In recent years, Fabio has developed very fast and now he has proven himself in the first team in Porto, which is one of the best.

“The quality requirement from our head coach is very high, but he believes that Fabio is an important signing who will help the team immediately this season.

“The timing of this deal is similar to when we bought Ruben Neves; we have waited for the right moment to get a high-quality player at the right price.”

Silva will likely be anyone’s guess for the Molineux faithful, as the former Benfica youth will only record 12 La Liga appearances with Porto.

So what can Wolves de Silva fans expect?

“Our recruiting team has been watching Fabio since he played for Portugal U16 and they feel that he has always been the best number nine in his age group anywhere in Europe,” Shi added.

“Fabio is a young player who shows not only incredible technical ability, but also his game intelligence for a player of his age is first class.

“He has the ability to come in to tie the game and hold the ball for others to come into play. He’s always looking to get into the penalty area and his movement and intelligence in the penalty area are as good as anyone’s.

“Fabio has the potential to be a generational talent and for us to see him develop with Nuno is very exciting. He is the type of player that our fans will love.”

Pepe

Wolverhampton Wanderers is monitoring Gremio striker Pepe, according to reports in Brazil.

The 23-year-old, who can play through the attack line, has become an integral part of Gremio’s team in the Brazilian top flight.

Those performances have reportedly piqued the interest of several clubs in Europe, including Wolves.

Pepe has started the new Serie A season in good shape, scoring in his last two games for the struggling team. And SporTV reported Friday night that Wolves were interested in taking him to the Premier League.

Those claims were supported by UOL Esporte, who suggests that Pepe’s agent will travel to London to hold talks with Molineux representatives about a possible transfer.

The report adds that while an official offer has yet to be released, the meeting could turn the Wolves’ interest into something more official.

The forward has been training on his own in preparations for Gremio’s game with Atlético Goianiense, after suffering a thigh strain, with initial reports that he will miss that match entirely.

The Wolves have yet to sign for the senior team in the summer window, the only Premier League club that has yet to do so. Toti Gomes’ arrival from Estoril was confirmed on Friday, although the defender will join Grasshoppers on loan for next season.
