SINGAPORE – A man accused of murdering his wife in Boon Lay will be sent for psychiatric observation.

On Friday (September 4), the prosecution requested that 24-year-old Chinese citizen Cui Huan be sent to the Changi Prison Complex Medical Center for a psychiatric evaluation.

Cui is accused of murdering 26-year-old Ms. Liang Xueqiu, who was found motionless on the sidewalk of Block 211 Boon Lay Place on August 27.

Police previously said they received a call for help around 6.30pm that day.

Officers who arrived at the scene found Ms. Liang injured and immobile.

She was taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and later pronounced dead at the hospital at 9.58pm.

A resident of the block had previously told The Straits Times that he had run out of his home to try to help Ms Liang, after being told by his younger brother that a woman was lying motionless downstairs.

There were about 10 passersby when he arrived at the scene before calling police, the resident said.

Another resident called the Singapore Civil Defense Force.

Cui was arrested by officers from the Jurong Police Department and Criminal Investigation Department within three hours of the incident.

He was charged with murder two days later.

Cui’s case was postponed until September 25.

If convicted, he faces the death penalty or life imprisonment with flogging.
