SINGAPORE – Individual physical fitness tests (IPPT) and in-camp training (ICT) for national ready-to-operate military (NSmen) will be progressively resumed from October, the Ministry of Defense (Mindef) said on Thursday (3 of September).
Members of the Singapore Armed Forces whose IPPT window closes on or before February 7, 2021 will receive a one-time exemption.
As part of the safe management measures, NS men returning for ICT at the unit level will be screened for Covid-19.
Mindef provided these updates in a Facebook post, saying that NSmen testing would help “prevent, detect and contain Covid-19 infections.”
Starting October 1, fitness centers at various camps will also reopen for IPPT.
Mindef said the tests will be conducted “at a reduced capacity and group size, and in accordance with safe management measures to safeguard the health and well-being of NS men.”
He explained that the one-off exemption from IPPT requirements for men with NS whose IPPT window closes on or before February 7, 2021 was due to the early closure of gyms and the gradual pace of reopening.
Those exempted will be informed individually via SMS and a letter this month.
Mindef’s suspension of IPPT and ICT for NSmen went into effect on March 31. In SMS updates to NSmen on August 5, the ministry said that IPPT would continue to be suspended until September 30.
In its Facebook post on Thursday, Mindef said: “The SAF will continue to monitor the Covid-19 situation in Singapore and review the measures in place to keep our military safe.
“We thank our NSmen for their continued contributions and commitment to keeping Singapore safe during these difficult times.”
