Singapore and South Korea to launch fast lane system for essential official and business travel

SINGAPORE: A fast track will be opened on Friday (September 4) for residents of Singapore and South Korea for those who need essential commercial or official travel between the two countries, the Foreign Ministry (MFA) said in a statement on Wednesday. .

In a phone conversation on Wednesday, Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and her South Korean counterpart Kang Kyung-wha welcomed the conclusion of bilateral negotiations on a fast track for essential business and official travel between the two countries, the ministry said.

This “will help restore connectivity and support economic recovery with the necessary safeguards for public health,” MFA said.

Eligible travelers must comply with mutually agreed terms and public health measures in force in the respective countries.

These include health safeguards in the form of pre-departure and post-arrival tests, as well as the need to adhere to a controlled itinerary for the first 14 days in the host country.

Operational details, including requirements, health protocols and the application process, will be posted on SafeTravel’s website on Friday, MFA said.

“The ministers reaffirmed the importance of bilateral cooperation to jointly overcome the common challenges of both countries amid the COVID-19 pandemic,” the MFA said, adding that both sides were looking forward to the launch of the fast track.
