SINGAPORE: Surbana Jurong (international) CEO Teo Eng Cheong resigned, the Temasek-owned company said on Wednesday (September 2).

“Eng Cheong has decided to leave Surbana Jurong to pursue other interests,” Surbana Jurong Group CEO Wong Heang Fine said in a statement.

His last day at the company will be September 30.

In his statement, Wong said that Teo had been instrumental in furthering the company’s business interests in Southeast Asia, North Asia and Singapore since joining the company in January 2016.

“He was involved in the creation of several of our joint ventures and oversaw our collaboration with the Silk Road Fund of China as a partner of SJ Capital,” said Wong.

“As Eng Cheong embarks on a new adventure, I would like to thank him for his lasting contributions to Surbana Jurong and wish him well.”

In an internal memo seen by CNA, Surbana Jurong did not mention who would succeed Teo.

Mr. Teo is a former staff member and husband of Human Resources Minister Josephine Teo.

They made headlines in May when allegations of lost profits and corruption were made against them in connection with the COVID-19 community care facilities developed by Surbana Jurong, including at the Singapore Expo.

Refuting the statements as “false, defamatory and completely unfounded”, Ms Teo said that she had directed her lawyers to issue formal letters of demand on the allegations, demanding that they be withdrawn.

“On these projects, Surbana Jurong dealt directly with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of National Development,” the minister said. “Neither my spouse nor I have any involvement in the implementation of these projects or the monetary transactions.”
