A 48-year-old woman died at her home in Hougang while taking a nap, but it took her family around 10 hours to realize that she had passed away.
According to her husband, the mother of one took a nap in the living room and stayed asleep until after midnight.
“I was still chatting to her normally when I got home around noon that day. I was asleep on the couch around 2 in the afternoon, until after midnight, ”revealed the husband in an interview with Lianhe Wanbao.
However, his wife did not respond when he called her. He also realized that his wife’s body was cold when he touched her hand.
After realizing what happened, the man immediately called paramedics and informed his son, who was also at home at the time.
The woman was pronounced dead when paramedics arrived.
According to reports from Lianhe Wanbao, the cause of death was due to cardiac arrest.

The man tearfully revealed to the Chinese media that when his wife was alive, she always cared about him and their son.
“My wife really loved my son and me. She was most concerned about the future of our family.”
Wife suffered from mental health problems
While the family of three living in a two-bedroom HDB unit in Hougang had been unemployed for some time, the man shared that his wife suffered from schizophrenia for more than 10 years, leading to her being unemployed for many years.
The day the incident occurred (August 27) was when his wife was supposed to head to the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) for an appointment. She finally decided to stay home because she was not feeling well.
Looking back, the man shared that there is a possibility that his wife passed away shortly after she fell asleep, considering her body was already stiff when he discovered her.
The man is said to have stayed home to care for his wife since he became unemployed after the circuit breaker. He previously worked as a cleaner.
Although he explained that the government payments they have received allowed them to get ahead this year, they are not sure of the future.
He said, “I hope I can find a job in a warehouse or as a delivery man to earn some money to take care of my son.”
Emotional toll on the family
Beyond the financial stresses, the death of his wife has also emotionally affected his son, who is said to suffer from anxiety problems even before the incident.
“Everyone tells me that my mother has died, but I cannot accept that. She was still fine just a second ago, how could she be dead all of a sudden? ” he said.
Lianhe Wanbao wrote that she had been unable to accept the death of her mother, possibly due to the side effects of the medications to cope with her anxiety.

After the death of his mother, the son also expressed regret that he did not spend more time with his mother while she was still alive. According to him, he had been aware of how others would look at them, as his mother’s appearance had become “abnormal” due to her mental illness.
“I hardly ever dated her because people were giving us weird looks. If I could rewind time and start over, I would proudly bring it out. But it is too late, “she said.
