Following a Facebook post alleging that he told a couple of elderly residents to move out, Chua Chu Kang Member of Parliament (MP) Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim came out to say that was not the case at all.

In a Facebook post on Saturday (Aug 29), he addressed a “malicious post intended to discredit the work done by his grassroots leaders and [him]”, saying that the accusations were false.

A Facebook post, written by a netizen the same day, claimed that an elderly couple asked Zhulkarnain during a visit to the house if it was possible to build an elevator on their side of the block. He allegedly told them, “If you’re not satisfied, just move on.”

The netizen continued to berate the newly elected MP in the rest of the message, writing: “How dare this MP make such comments! [sic]”

In response to the accusations, Zhulkarnain said: “Those who know and got to know me in the course of my visits will know that this is not true.”

During his visits, he had received all comments from residents and informed them that he would do everything possible to pressure the relevant agencies for explanations and studies, he explained.

Regarding the construction of elevators in various blocks, Zhulkarnain added that he is in the process of obtaining the relevant information and floor plans to study the possibility of meeting the requests of residents.

“Even when HDB responded that the possibility was not high, I am committed to providing alternative solutions to residents to minimize their inconvenience,” he said.

Several netizens spoke in support of Zhulkarnain, shared their own experiences with the MP during his rounds, and thanked him for his sincerity and hard work.
