SINGAPORE – 54 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed as of noon on Sunday (August 30), bringing Singapore’s total to 56,771.

They included eight community cases, comprising seven Singaporeans or permanent residents and one work pass holder, the Ministry of Health (MINSA) said.

There were also seven imported cases that were included in stay-at-home notices upon arrival in Singapore.

More details will be announced Sunday night.

On Saturday, several shopping malls on Orchard Road and the Geylang Serai Market were among the new places added to the MOH’s list of places visited by Covid-19 patients while they were infectious.

Malls included Ngee Ann City, Far East Shopping Center, Far East Plaza, Paragon, and The Heeren.

51 new coronavirus cases were also confirmed on Saturday.

They included a community case, a 39-year-old Bangladeshi man who has a work permit, the Health Ministry said.

This case was not linked to any previous cases as of Saturday and did not show any symptoms.

Three imported cases were also announced on Saturday that had been placed on stay-at-home notices upon arrival in Singapore.

One of them was a three-year-old Singaporean girl who returned from India. It was confirmed that she had Covid-19 on Friday.

The remaining 47 cases reported Saturday were dorm residents, of which 37 were already in quarantine or isolated before being detected.

Ten were detected by surveillance.

The Health Ministry said all the new cases announced on Saturday were asymptomatic and were detected through proactive screening and surveillance.

Of the new cases, 98 percent were imported or linked to known cases or clusters.

The number of cases in the community has remained stable at an average of two cases per day in the last two weeks.

During the same period, the number of unrelated cases has also remained stable, at an average of one per day.
