Liverpool great John Barnes believes that Paul Pogba’s tenure is good news for Manchester United.
But Barnes believes the Manchester United star needs to back his commitment to the club.
He said BonusCodeBets: “It will all come down to Manchester United because Paul Pogba is a Manchester United player. Pogba doesn’t have all the cards. He seems happy to stay, and Manchester United seem happy to have him stay. If Pogba feels that way because he thinks the club has started to go in the right direction, I don’t know. I think a player should want to stay in a club no matter what, because even if a club is not going in the right direction, the player can help him do it. Players who don’t think so should be eliminated.
“If Pogba’s said that he is 100% committed to Manchester United, then it is great news for them, because he is a great player. However, you must show your commitment, which you did not show last year. He needs to play with the same spirit and attitude that we saw towards the end of this season and in his association with Bruno Fernandes.
“Pogba likes to be in the center of media attention and he likes to be the great player. I wouldn’t want to be Fernandes’ second fiddle in terms of his performance or his media attention, so I don’t think this influenced his decision to stay. He may be happier now because he believes Manchester United will be a better team next year. I’m not a fan of players who think that way. If a team is not performing well, players should want to stay and improve their club’s situation.
“If Pogba decided that Manchester United are where they want to be now, that’s fine, but I don’t think the fact that Fernandes took the media’s attention away has influenced Pogba’s decision. The problem with Pogba is that he could change his mind from week to week. You just need to fully commit or not commit at all. Too often in Premier League teams we see players who think they are bigger than their clubs and want to leave when their clubs start to play poorly. This is not how players and clubs should be. “
