SINGAPORE – 94 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed as of noon on Friday (August 28), bringing Singapore’s total to 56,666.

They included four community cases, which included Singaporeans or permanent residents, the Ministry of Health (MINSA) said.

There were also 10 imported cases that were placed on stay-at-home notices or isolated upon arrival in Singapore.

Among the 80 remaining cases residing in dormitories, 58 are from Sungei Tengah Lodge and had previously been quarantined.

The Health Ministry said that the vast majority of them were evaluated during quarantine to determine their status, or were collected through routine tests listed.

On August 22, a coronavirus cluster was announced at Sungei Tengah Lodge. After the group was detected, the Health Ministry placed about 4,500 workers in quarantine and has so far analyzed about 3,000 of them.

The ministry added that it expects the number of dormitory cases to remain high in the coming days until testing of the remaining quarantined workers is completed.

More details on Friday’s new Covid-19 cases will be announced later in the evening.

On Thursday, the Sheng Siong supermarket in Elias Mall and Our Tampines Hub were added to the list of places visited by Covid-19 patients when they were infectious.

The ministry provides the list for those who were in these places in specific periods to closely monitor their health for two weeks from the date of their visit. The full list can be found on the website of the Ministry of Health.

The ministry has said that close contacts have already been notified and that there is no need to avoid these places as they would have been cleaned up if necessary.

77 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed on Thursday.

They included two community cases, both from Singapore, the Health Ministry said.

One of the community cases was linked to a previous patient and had visited a camera store in the Excelsior shopping center, where he may have had contact with a case who went to work at the store when he was infected.

The Health Ministry said the risk of infection is low but, as a precaution, it will contact all the people who visited the store between August 15 and 18 and provide them with the Covid-19 tests.

The other community case was unrelated Thursday night.

There were also five imported cases, including an 82-year-old Singaporean woman who had returned to Singapore from India.

All imported cases were placed on stay-at-home notices upon arrival in Singapore.

Migrant workers housed in dormitories made up the remaining 70 new cases announced Thursday.

The average number of new daily cases in the community in a week has increased from one case two weeks ago to two in the last week.

The number of unrelated cases in the community has remained stable at an average of one case per day during the same period.

Singapore has had 27 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died from other causes.

Globally, the virus outbreak, which began in December last year, has infected more than 24.6 million people. More than 834,700 people have died.
