The death of a parent is one of the most tragic events one can experience.
But imagine not being able to properly cry for your father for months? Well, local celebrity Elvin Ng shared his firsthand account of the latest episode of the meWATCH Hear U Out talk show and it was a tear.
The 39-year-old actor recounted that he hosted Quan Yi Fong, one of the darkest periods of his life in which he had to deal with his father’s death and work.
It was in 2012, and on her first day of filming a new project, she received a call from her sister about her father’s hospitalization for heart problems. It was purely by fate that she had her phone with her at the time, as the scene required the device.
Elvin traveled between the set and the hospital for the next four days.
He said, “I had to go to work two hours before his surgery. I didn’t say ‘goodbye’. I said, ‘Dad, I’m going to work.’ That’s it, and I couldn’t see him while they were taking him away. [into the operating theatre]. “
The operation lasted 20 hours and Elvin’s father survived. However, due to possible inflammation, he did not wake up. Only after all the “people”, including his aunts, had found out, did his father regain consciousness. “He really loved his family,” Elvin said.
He added: “My father woke up suddenly for over a minute, but he was struggling. He couldn’t recognize me or anyone. He just opened his eyes and then left.”
Although Elvin had some time off for his father’s wake (which lasted a week), he had to re-film the day after Mr. Ng was buried. Their working hours were also longer, from 7 am to 1 am, to make up for lost time. As a result, Elvin was unable to seek comfort from his family and be with them.
[[nid:491049]]It was a very exhausting time for him, and every time he came home, his family slept.
“Seeing my family together made me want to be with them and sort my emotions, because I had been busy and [my mind] it was blank. She still hadn’t accepted what happened. But I could not [be with them]. So I let them be, while I was in a corner reading my scripts, “he confessed.
On the third day after he resumed filming, he had a nervous breakdown.
“I called the producer and told him I wasn’t feeling well. I asked him if they could give me 30 minutes to an hour. I just wanted to hide in a corner right now and not leave,” he explained.
After finishing filming two months later, he took his mother on a trip to Europe to spend time with her. But Elvin only dealt with his own emotions about four months after his father’s death.
“After all, when I had a break, I went to the beach, and under a starry night sky, I stood there and the tears started to flow. I didn’t know I was crying, but the tears kept flowing.”
