KUALA LUMPUR (THE STAR / ASIA NEWS NETWORK) – Parts of the Pudu area of Kuala Lumpur have been cordoned off by authorities under a semi-enhanced movement control (MCO) order.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Mazlan Lazim, when contacted on Friday (May 15) confirmed the incident.

“It is not a crash or an enhanced MCO. It is similar to what we did in the Chow Kit market,” he said.

The Malay Mail news site reported that Armed Forces personnel were seen putting up barbed wire fences at 3 am in the surrounding areas through the Hotel Pudu Plaza.

On May 5, two areas in Selayang and Chow Kit were supervised by authorities to control the spread of Covid-19.

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob had said that Taman Wilayah and Taman Desa Bakti in Selayang, as well as Jalan Raja Bot in Chow Kit, were not placed under an enhanced motion control order during their daily press conference that day.

He said they put barbed wire in these three places to adjust the movement of residents.

Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa had said the area was under semi-improved MCO.

“What it means is that we don’t close the area, but there will be limited access points.

“People without proper documents or people at high risk (from being exposed to the virus) will not be allowed out.

“Health Ministry staff will also carry out tests on Covid-19,” he said during a press conference on May 5.
