SINGAPORE – Some 70 firefighters put out a fire (May 13) in a Tuas warehouse on Wednesday morning that was so intense that the heat from the fire caused the walls of the property to rupture.

No injuries were reported.

The Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) responded to the fire around 6.20 a.m. and deployed firefighters and 16 emergency vehicles to surround and contain the fire.

When the SCDF arrived on the scene, the fire was seen from the second floor of a two-story warehouse at 2B Tuas Avenue 12.

The contents of the warehouse, which includes machinery and plastic resin bales, were engulfed in fire.

About an hour and a half later, the fire was extinguished with the use of eight hand planes.

SCDF applied water to moisten hot burned surfaces immediately after putting out the fire. This process, called damping, is used to prevent any potential reactivation of the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
