SINGAPORE – Users trying to access the Internet on M1 fiber services on Tuesday morning (May 12) may experience technical difficulties.

The telecommunications company said at approximately 8 am on Facebook that customers in some areas of western, central and eastern Singapore are affected.

Apologizing for the inconvenience caused, M1 said its engineers are “working hard to resolve the problem.”

According to the Down Detector website, which records internet outages, M1 started having trouble around 4.27 a.m., before complaints increased to 7.27 a.m. with 1,185 reports, and again at 8.42 a.m. with 1,432 reports.

Many Facebook users turned to Facebook to voice their complaints about the internet outage, as many had to work from home during the switch period.

Mr. Lim Jing Hong, who works in financial services, told the Straits Times that he normally starts working around 7 a.m. and can’t get his connection to work at 6.55 a.m.

The 32-year-old said, “I couldn’t verify if my router, my personal connection, or the M1 connection were having problems … I only verified it after going through the hotline more than 30 minutes later. I thought about communications (from the telecommunications company) were severely lacking.

“I missed my morning meetings today, I had to arrange for other colleagues to cover my duties.”
