An 85-year-old man was fined after being caught in a series of raids targeting vices that took place from May 4-6.

Thirty women, aged 19 to 48, were arrested for alleged involvement in vice-related activities during the three-day operation across the island, police said in a press release yesterday.

Nineteen men, between 19 and 85 years old, were also found in these facilities. Since they had left their homes for a non-essential activity, each of them was issued a $ 300 composition notice for violating safe distancing regulations.

Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department and the Central, Tanglin, Ang Mo Kio and Bedok divisions participated in the raids on HDB developments, private condominiums, massage establishments and a hotel.

Investigations are ongoing.

Police said vice activities are increasingly taking place on residential properties, using online platforms to advertise and solicit clients.

“This has caused significant inconvenience to residents and affected their sense of security,” they said.

Landlords must ensure that their properties are not used for such illegal activities and monitor suspicious or questionable tenants, they added.

HDB will also act against landlords and tenants for any misuse of floors for vice activities.

If convicted, landlords and tenants who knowingly allow their facilities to be used for vice-related activities can be fined up to $ 3,000, imprisoned for up to three years, or both.

For subsequent convictions, offenders can be fined up to $ 10,000, imprisoned for up to five years, or both.

Severe measures will also be taken against those who are acting as agents or pimps for vice activities, with fines of up to $ 10,000 and imprisonment for up to five years.

Licensees of errant massage establishments can be punished with a fine of up to $ 10,000 or imprisonment of up to two years, or both.

Members of the public can report suspected vice-related activity through the police hotline at 1800-255-0000 or at www.police.gov.sg/iwitness

All information received will be kept strictly confidential.
